Summer Fashion In Times Of Lockdown
It has been months since the world as we knew it turned upside down. Millions of people worldwide have been forced to adjust their routines and completely change their lifestyles.
Why dressing up if I am not going out?
In Mexico, as in many other countries, businesses have closed their doors to the public and touristic spots have been shut down temporarily. Since we can’t really go out, now more than ever we’ve started to dress up for ourselves – as it should always be.
The real power of getting dressed
Maybe at the beginning of this whole crisis, those of us who were lucky enough to stay at home didn’t feel like wearing our best clothes and doing our make-up. “What’s the point if no one is going to see me?”, I thought. Soon enough I learned that the way I dressed affected my performance at home-school and home-office. I also discovered that dressing up, making my hair and my make-up made me feel happy, energetic and prepared to embrace the day.
Rediscovering my style
Given the situation, this summer is undoubtedly different. I will not go to spend the day by the lake nor go on holiday to the beach. Neither will I stay awake late at night partying with my friends, and I will certainly not go to discover new restaurants with my parents. However, I feel lucky. I feel lucky that my loved ones and I are healthy. I feel lucky because I learned to dress up for myself, to play with my outfits as I never did before, to rediscover my style and what suits me better.
Summer 2020 has shown me, among many things, that style is a matter of feeling good and expressing oneself – nothing more, nothing less. Now I know that the next time I go out, I will feel more confident. I will know exactly what I want to wear because I will not be dressing to please anyone but me.
